1st post & a Darfur die-in

I’m starting my first post of this blog with coverage of the Darfur die-in on the library lawn. I’m currently inside the Student Union eating a bagel waiting for the protest to get larger. It’s too cold to wait outside and besides, I haven’t had breakfast yet. It was also an opportunity to check out the People’s market. It has organic food and everything looks to be fair trade. I also bought dragonfruit Vitaminwater that I just spilt on myself. Another reminder of the laundry I have to do tonight.

Coverage of Die-In

When I took pictures of the Die- In, there were only 3 people on the ground, one of them holding a sign that said, “400,000 Dead, 2.5 million displaced, 10,000 dying every month.” I took about 36 shots all together. The woman running the event through MassSprig said that they wanted to turn out 1% or 400 people of the 400,000 dead. I don’t know if that statement is right and I’m working on getting a voice recorder. Damn my memory. But I know it was 400 people and 1% of some number for some statistic. Anyways, I pretty much did a 360 shoot of the sitters and got my pants covered in mud at the knees. Ah, the wonderful job of a photojournalist. No matter cause I got some really great shots.

I just got a call from one of my editors to shoot a convention of sorts at the Campus Center tonight for the Obama campaign and I will be taking the photos and then having them placed into a slideshow. Should be interesting.
