I'm finally home from school and have the summer to look forward to. I'm currently looking for a job or jobs, but nothing successful so far. Because I don't own a car, I'm limited to finding a job that I can get to via public transport. I'm really looking for something in the city or surrounding area. I e-mailed a photographer about being an assistant, but I haven't heard back yet. I'm also going to be doing some work for the city's historical society by taking pictures of buildings and places that were also photographed a long time ago. It will be part of a photographic record of the change of the city. I also want to do some writing about buildings in my town that people don't realize their original significance and history. We have some pretty interesting places that I don't think people realize and by writing about it I hope to open people's eyes about the history of my town, awareness of historical sites, and hopefully help protect these places because a lot of them are being torn down. So, this summer is going to be busy, but I hope to make the best of it.
Tomorrow I'm going to see an exhibit of Spanish painters during the reign of Philip III of Spain. So that includes both El Greco and Velazquez. I'm really excited about seeing it because I really liked learning about this period in art history and being able to walk into a museum now and understand that period of history and art is just so awesome. I wish that art history was a requirement in high school or college because it really opens your eyes about history and gives you a new perspective of why certain art came and went or evolved.
Cornell Capa also passed away today. His brother was famous war photographer Robert Capa however Cornell shot mostly social and political images. Really good article and something that I'm more interested in doing.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Ciao!

Hope you enjoy your art trip.
I never could stand El Greco or any of the Spanish Baroque painters.
You must take after your great-grandmother :-)
Hope you have a great summer!
