Appropriation

I thought that while I am waiting for my art history class to begin and sipping my small coffee that I could and should update my blog. This weekend I am going to do a photo shoot with a friend for my studio art class. We are doing appropriations or copying works of art by other artists. I am doing a photo by Annie Leibovitz of Christo Vladimirov Javacheff, an artist who is well known for wrapping up famous buildings in sheets and The Gates exhibit throughout Central Park.

What I really liked about this photo before I really knew who was in it was the fact that you have to take the artist's word that he is actually in the photo. The fact that the person wrapped up is actually known for doing that is just very creative and I feel is an appropriate portrait for him because this is his life's work and how people recognize him.

So I'm going to take my friend and wrap her up in some sheets. It would probably be nicer if I did it here at school with some of the buildings in the background, but finding someone comfortable enough to wrap them up and do it in public might just be a stretch. However, I think that the location that I want to shoot at will be sufficient enough and will have a nice backdrop.

Nothing much going on with Collegian assignments. I took a nice feature photo of a girl getting henna done on her hand (it's a paste that stains a design into your skin)
at an event for Islam Awareness Week on campus. They were all really nice and I got my palm done too. It still kinda smells like the paste (which really isn't pleasant)but it's not overwhelming.

I can't wait until this weekend. I am just so busy and stressing about my math exam tomorrow. I have a scholarship that I need to write an essay for, housing assignments, class sign ups I need to get an appointment for to make sure that I am getting all the classes that I need, two feature article that I have no time this week to do and will have to wait until next week. And I need to makes sure that all of my drawings are done or fixed by next Thursday. I really, really can't wait for summer vacation to come sooner. Oh, and I have to get a job too. Joy.... At least the weather is really nice and warm.

Friday I have a field trip and then I go home, so after my math exam, the start of a nice weekend begins. I just have to get through it until then. *Deep Breath!*

Ok, I need to head to class now. I hope you aren't as stressed out as I am.

Ciao!
