Queerfest

So I stopped by today at the Queerfest sponsored by the UMASS Pride Alliance that was taking place on the library lawn. I intended to take some shots of the activities anyways, but since Editor B called and told me too, I guess I REALLY had to, haha, just kidding. It is just such a nice day and I can feel a breeze now too. They had cotton candy, flavored ice, a blow up obstacle course, and a knock em off thing. You'll see in the photos ^_~.

I just got back from a lecture by Globe spot news photographer George Rizer. It was so awesome to see someone in the field that I hope to be in one day. But he made it very clear from his stories and experience that it is a tough business and it is getting tougher by the minute. The loss of newspaper circulations and "citizen journalists" has made the field of journalism blurred. And his really put in perspective that you really really have to know your trade or you will just be looked over. You either give it your all or move aside. "Get the photo that no one else can get" as Editor B puts it because otherwise there is no way I can survive being a news photographer. He talked about how now along with his three cameras he has to carry around a camcorder for video clips online. That's just crazy having to do those two things at once! And he said that there is a possibility that one day all journalists will be required to have a camera and camcorder with them. It's a scary future, but I'm willing to face it. I just need to keep learning, connecting with those in the business, and practice, practice, practice.

I have a huge math test to study for so ciao!
