Recent happenings

The last few weeks have been so ridiculously busy, and every time that I have wanted to post some updates, I keep being deterred to other business. The last time I posted I was on vacation, but so much has happened since then.

My film photos from vacation came out really well. I had a photo shoot with with my father and used some black film, but I didn't put it in right and it never advanced, so I lost those photos. It all comes with the field I guess. Anyways, I got some really nice shots with my Olympus with the help of my UV filter.

Of the rest of the film ( I got 5 rolls developed!), I got some really nice shots of the family and made a collage of the vacation on our fridge. I also took a really nice photo of my dog Cooper doing what she does best, staring at absolutely nothing. I also got some very cool photos of her on the bed with some cool lighting.

A week after I got back from vacation I went to New York for a art museum field trip and stayed over the weekend at my cousin's house with her husband and two daughters, one of them just around 3 months old I believe. They showed me around the city and I loved every minute of it. I don't get to hang out with my cousins a lot, so this was very special for me. And I can't wait to visit again in the summer. I took some really nice family shots for them and I'm glad that they came out really nice. Their baby has the bluest eyes I have ever seen.

When I got back, I came down with a really bad cold and had to miss two days of classes. This put me more behind than I wanted in my art project. I made a cd staircase for a collection project and got some help from the campus wood shop to make the base. I just love the resources on campus.

Because I was sick, I haven't done a lot of stuff for the Collegian, but that is ok. I did take some pictures at a talent show and that got a nice spread in the arts section. I almost didn't make it because they changed locations at the last second, but I did some inquires and eventually found it on time.

I also took some photos at a crew meet. That was a lot of fun, but it was terribly cold and I couldn't get a close enough shot because my lens is not a telephoto. I also got to go on a boat in the river, which was SO much fun, but I just made myself that much colder. If I had a telephoto lens, I would really like to do the crew beat. One of the good things that came out of it though was that a friend from one of my classes is on the team and I was able to give her some nice shots. And also, that team is supposedly really good, winning a championship meet for the last 10 years.

And my most recent news on campus was a pro-China rally that happened right when I got out of my class while I was heading to another. I was able to get in a couple of really good shots and then returned later when the pro-Tibet people showed up and the pro-China group left within around 5 or 10 minutes of their arrival. From what I saw at the very beginning, I didn't feel like the pro-China people were very enthusiastic about it. They had to keep being rallied by these two people, and just stood their quietly when they were not. Usually, people are very enthusiastic throughout. Editor B also got harassed by one of them. He actions thankfully did not represent the rest of the group. Anyways, when my editor asked for his name for a photo, he eventually gave it to him, then right after asked that his name be taken off the record and all of the photos with him in it deleted. Now, he has no right to do that since it is our right to record events that happen in public. He then followed my editor around and was impeding on his work to the point where my editor threatened to call the police on him. In the end, it just shows how much people do not understand their rights. This one is not all that too well known and has been taken to court about photographers taking photos of people in public, but I think that it is one we should all know about. And telling a photographer to delete the work that he has every right to have is a big no no. These were some of the more exciting assignments so far.

The Collegian Minute was finally published, but sadly without my fencing photos. Even though the writer for the article had over a month to write it, they never did. So I took it upon myself to do so. Having already taken the photos and 5 years fencing experience, I think that I am quite capable of writing it. It should come out in a few weeks. I also need to get back on the EMT feature. I just need to finish my article for it and take some photos of them treating people and some personal shots and I am done. Hopefully things will not be too busy for me in the last few weeks before finals.

I think I'm going to be taking some softball photos this weekend if all goes well. Should be exciting!

Ciao!
