Hallelujah It's the Weekend!

The weekend is finally here and the week just blew by so fast it’s unbelievable. I finally got my Art history quiz back with a 92! I totally dominate Art history. It combines two of my favorite things in the world and just sitting through a 50 minute class exploring amazing works of art from paintings to architecture to sculpture is so inspiring for me to get out into the world as soon as possible and see what else is out there. I have an art history exam coming up later this week as well as a math one. I know I have to really study for that math one because there are just so many formulas and the online practice homeworks are just so hard that they can be discouraging. However, one of my floor mates who took the class last semester said that the homework is harder than the tests; I just hope she’s right.

Last night I went to shoot the fencing club for an upcoming magazine that looks like it will be featuring a lot of student organizations. I had a lot of fun hanging out with them and just remembering what it was like to be a fencer. I fenced for 5 years and have wanted to go back to it for a while. I tried last semester, but I couldn’t get to the practices because of my schedule. I do want to start again and see how I can work it into this semester’s schedule, although I guess I’ll have to wait a little longer because Editor B said that joining now would be a conflict of interests until the story is published.

I was so excited about doing some fencing photography, especially with the photos that I got last time at a tournament. I really love some of the shots, especially one of a fencer doing a Fleche, which is a forward jump attack in the air. They can be really difficult to pull off and harder to shoot because they happen so fast. Shooting fencing is really hard not only because of its fast pace nature, but also if you are not aware of your surroundings, you can get hit with a weapon or trampled on.

Epee bout

The Epeeist to the right is performing a very nice lunge

This is one of my favorites. This one is of the Fleche and you can just see the action of him flying toward his opponent. The Fleche is actually depicted on the United States Fencing Association's logo.

Another perfect lunge

I really love the perspective of this shot. The focus on his jacket and the action clearly seen in front of him.

Another nice perspective shot.

We also have an ongoing bet/prize for whoever can shoot the best/interesting photo of a sculpture on campus. It is very abstract and can be difficult to make interesting. However, I believe that I got the best shot. I’ll post it Sunday or Monday when we all meet. I’m so excited. If I get down to the sculpture again this weekend, I think I’m going to see if I can get another shot in and play around with the angles.

I was saddened to hear about the media leak of Prince Harry’s military deployment to Afghanistan. This poor boy is having his life controlled by the media and can barely do anything of normalcy without them interfering. Now he is a possible terror target just because he served his country. Shameless is what I call the Drudge Report. They are risking his life all because they feel they need to tell THIS story. Why did it have to be THIS one? I think that if you are risking an innocent person’s life by releasing a story, that it probably isn’t worth it. The least they could have done is stick with the news blackout like everyone else and waited for Prince Harry to get back home safe and protected instead of leaving him hanging out there in the middle of a war zone. If anything happens to him, I’m holding them accountable. Its just human ethics, not media ethics. There has to be a fine line where you either risk a story or a person’s life. I don’t know yet if telling someone’s story at their own risk is more important than the story itself. We are talking about someone’s life here, someone who has to live with this story long after the reporter continues on to another. It’s a very scary thought that I think most reporters have to consider when they start writing a story.

Besides that disappointing news, Editor B is going to sell me some lens filters for my camera and I might buy another online. He also said he’ll teach me how to use them. I’m really excited. And he is also getting a new lens today, so it is an all-together happy day for the photographers here on campus, haha.

On that photography note, I just went out today to buy some more ink for my printer for my graffiti art project that is due for my studio class Tuesday. The prints that I have gotten so far are really great, and I’m thinking of selling them to get some extra cash. I just need to go into town tomorrow to get my photo paper. I really like the HP premium glossy photo paper. It’s expensive, but worth it because I just love the glossy look to them. I’m not a really big matte fan, but that’s just my preference.

I think I’ve written a long enough post already, so I’ll leave it at that. I hope that this post finds you in good health and enjoying life. Best of wishes from The Wanderer.

Ciao!
