Editor B brought up a really good point: who is in charge of choosing photos for articles? He was telling me that the photo that the news department published today was not one that he would have chosen because he feels that there were stronger ones for the story. I have had similar issues. Editor M says that the Collegian runs differently from most papers because the news has the last say on the photo. Usually, the photographer is in charge of the caption and editing of the photo, then sends it over to the Photo editor who looks through the photos and then sends the chosen final one to graphics to be laid out with the rest of the paper. The photographer and reporter just communicate on what is going to be shot story wise.
I know that the news and photo department are really working on trying to communicate better and choosing a photo is not usually a struggle.
OK, I'm off to shoot a photo of solar-heated hot chocolate. Sweet ^_~
Ciao!
